Hunting Island is where we go for salt air, whispering palms and the sound of the surf after dark. We have returned several times, and somehow a week always feels too short.

Our little field notes

Our return visit
We have returned to Hunting Island at least four times this year. It remains our favorite place to camp, our favorite beach and our favorite little community.

Picking a site
The park lists sites accommodating RVs up to 28 feet or 40 feet, depending on the site. Compare beach access, shade and the space you need before booking.

With Simon and Pru
There is plenty to sniff between the forest and the shore. Dogs can enjoy most outdoor areas on a leash six feet or shorter. Follow the North Beach markers protecting shorebirds. The pier, lighthouse complex and cabin area are off limits to pets.

What brings us back
The morning birds, the palms moving in the breeze and the surf we can hear from camp. Leave time for a forest walk and a quiet stretch of beach with very little on the agenda.

Before heading to Boneyard Beach
As of November 6, 2026, the park reports the bridge to Little Hunting Island/Boneyard Beach temporarily closed because of high tides and hazardous conditions. Check current park advisories before setting out.
